A key element of New Age of Reason Studios is the intellimagine™ creation lab, designed by STYVYN for optimal workflow and relaxed intuitive creativity in the compositional stages of production as well as an experimental environment for sampling and sound design.

intellimagine creation labThe central hub of the creation lab is a powerful MacPro with 16 gigs of ram, connected via gigabit ethernet to numerous Mac Minis (for distributed audio processing) and a souped-up MacBookPro. We use an Apogee Ensemble as our primary firewire interface and Apogee Duet for off-site recording. Two 20-inch Apple Cinema Displays flank a 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display at the central console. Logic Studio and Reason are the principle recording software components in the Lab, although Alexandra, 10-year old violinist daughter of Markella and STYVYN can produce some pretty incredible things with GarageBand, a small M-Audio keyboard and her electric violin. Kontakt and Melodyne Studio are the other main recording software components used by us most frequently. Primary workstation keyboards include the Yamaha Motif XS8 and the Roland Fantom G8 and Native Instruments MASCHINE is used as our primary groove box. Midi controllers include a CME VX8, a Novation ReMOTE 25 SL, an M-Audio Keystation 88es and an M-Audio Trigger Finger. Other midi controllers at the central console include a PreSonus Faderport and a Frontier AlphaTrack. An M-Audio MidiSport coordinates much of the midi communications. A Yamaha CP300 Stage Piano is used extensively both as a midi-controller and instrument. Communication between central console and artist is handled by a PreSonus Central Station and Central Station Remote in tandem with an Apple iChat Video session. A small army of Glyph external harddrives store our extensive sample libraries, which include over 120,000 samples for Kontakt and Reason. Hourly backups are handled by the Glyphs as well as by a 1 Terabyte Apple Time Capsule. The Motif XS8 and the Fantom G8 backup via Lacie Rugged drives. Primary studio monitors are a pair of Yamaha MSP7s with a Yamaha HS10W sub-woofer. Headphones include a Sennheiser HD 600, an AKG K 271 MK II, and a Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. A MusicPadPro is used for score reading during recording. Our most frequently used mics are the Neumann M149 and the U87 both run through an Avalon 747sp vacuum tube compressor and a TC-Helicon VoicePro Professional Voice Processor.
